The BENEFIT Fellows 2021 are about to start their clinical immersions

BENEFIT Fellows 2021 are nearing the end of their bootcamp training and will start their clinical immersions on 11 October 2021. The bootcamp sessions as well as their own interdisciplinary backgrounds and excellent team dynamics will help them through the next phase of the programme: the Identify phase.

Let’s have a closer look at where our 8 fellows will observe and catalogue unmet needs for clinical innovation.

BENEFIT fellows 2021 - Team the Netherlands

Carla, Dominique, Gina and Huguette had their clinical immersion arranged by Rianne Roozendaal, BENEFIT clinical immersion coordinator the Netherlands and Coordinator Academic General Practitioners Network at Erasmus Medical Centre (Erasmus MC) in Rotterdam.

The General Practitioners Department of Erasmus MC has run a network of 12 academic GP practices - called Primeur in Dutch - since 2011 and Rianne has been instrumental in selecting clinical immersion sites that will host the BENEFIT fellows 2021.

After a successful internal call with an extremely high positive response rate, Rianne secured not one but two GP practices - Het Huisartsenteam Nassaulaan Home with Yannick van Uythoven as local clinical supervisor and Gezondheidscentrum Krimpen with Paul van den Homberg as clinical supervisor - so the fellows will certainly have their work cut out for them.

BENEFIT fellows 2021 - Team Belgium

Luis, Martin, Cilia and Andreas will conduct their clinical immersion at the Daywards Oncology of the JCI-accredited University Hospitals Leuven (UZ Leuven), the academic hospital affiliated with KU Leuven. The Daywards Oncology had more than 52 000 day admissions in 2020 so they too will be busy as beavers.

Luckily enough, onboarding meetings with staff members of the wards have been extremely open and welcoming and the fellows have the full support of the UZ Leuven management committee who are awaiting the results of the BENEFIT 2021 fellowship with great anticipation.

As you can see, the inaugural BENEFIT fellowship is off to a flying start! We hope that you will browse the impressive profiles of the fellows by checking our Who's Who page.
