Health Innovation Fellowship

We embark on the first Belgian-Dutch Health Innovation Fellowship: BENEFIT!

Setting up BENEFIT, the first bilateral Health Innovation Fellowship of its kind, against the backdrop of a global pandemic has been both challenging and exhilarating.

Luckily enough, BENEFIT marks the launch of a dedicated and committed partnership between KU LeuvenTU Delft and Erasmus University Medical Center.

BENEFIT trains talented teams to identify the most pressing healthcare needs during their clinical immersions - kindly hosted by University Hospitals Leuven and Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam - while equipping them with the tools to develop solutions that are optimally fitted to the needs of the market. The partners strongly believe that the needs-driven approach of this postgraduate training programme will empower future healthcare innovators.

In addition, the creation of BENEFIT ‘‘stood on the shoulders of giants” (to paraphrase Isaac Newton) since we could count on the invaluable advice of our colleagues within the EIT Health Needs-led Innovation Fellowships Network who have successfully implemented fellowships in Denmark, France, Ireland, Spain and many other countries for years. Thank you!

Over the next few months, the implementation modalities of the first year - which will run from September 2021 until May 2022 - will be fine-tuned so that we can launch the first application round this Spring. Needless to say that we will take into account the coronavirus measures.

Behind the scenes, we are speaking to innovators, health tech experts, higher education institutions and many others who believe that observation and imagination are at the heart of healthcare innovation. If you want to share your ideas, obtain more information, collaborate with us or invest, feel free to reach out via the contact form.

Meanwhile, we promise to share our progress on this blog and to share this blog space with the 2021 fellows once they start!
